 Custodian (Full-time 40 hours per week)

Locations: 5th Avenue and MLK

JOB SUMMARY:

High School Diploma required. Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture and dusting surfaces. Sweep and mop floors and vacuum carpets. Wash and sanitize toilets and sinks and restock disposables (e.g. soap). Wipe mirrors and windows. Maintain outer premises by watering plants, mowing lawn, cleaning entrances. Utilize insecticides to prevent infestation by dangerous pests. Perform maintenance and minor repairs (replacing broken switches, fixing door handles, minor leaks etc.). Report major damages and oversee repairs. Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows, and setting up the alarm. Undertake occasional custodial and janitorial tasks (shoveling snow from the sidewalk, lifting heavy items, moving chairs etc.)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Cleans assigned areas and in accordance with duty list, policies and/or procedures.
  2. Vacuums, sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors.
  3. Dusts furniture and equipment, polishes glass and metalwork.
  4. Empties wastebaskets, replaces garbage bags and transports waste to proper disposal area.
  5. Cleans sinks, commodes, mirrors, countertops, faucets, handles, showers, shower seats.
  6. Replenishes soap and paper dispensers.
  7. Spot clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies as needed or requested.
  8. Washes walls, ceiling, woodwork, windows, door panels, and sills as needed or requested.
  9. Make minor repairs to doors, windows, walls, floors, hardware, fixtures, equipment,  etc., using appropriate carpentry and other tools;
  10. Changes fixtures, filters, lightbulbs, etc.;
  11. Installs items such as shelving, cabinets, etc., using appropriate carpentry and other tools;
  12. Paint and wallpaper, etc., using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment, paints, primers and lacquers;
  13. Assembles, installs, and/or repairs facility furnishings and fixtures;
  14. Safely and correctly uses cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  15. Returns equipment to proper location in proper working condition and properly emptied of solutions, cleaned and ready for the next use.
  16. Maintains all cleaning equipment, carts, utility and storage areas in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion.
  17. Notifies supervisor when repairs are needed for furniture or equipment and when cleaning supplies are needed
  18. Demonstrates efficiency by working within the specified time limits.
  19. Promotes and displays knowledge of safety consciousness, universal precautions, and proper body mechanics; uses equipment and materials properly according to training and/or guidelines.
  20. Performs other tasks and duties as assigned by the manager in an efficient, effective and cost conscious manner.
  21. Follows CHN’s Compliance guidelines at all times.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree
  • One (1) or more years in facilities /maintenance, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Read, write and speak sufficiently to successfully perform the essential duties of this position.
  • Physical and mental stamina sufficient to work with constant demands, challenges and in difficult circumstances.
  • Capable of relating to people of diverse age, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to multi-task, work with numerous interruptions and willingness to assess and change priorities.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Valid Automobile insurance
  • Dependable vehicle for traveling to Community HealthNet, Inc. facilities to perform job duties and transport necessary equipment. (Pick-up truck preferred)
